Don’t go traditional. Everyone expects your table to be set with white dinnerware and the usual nickel silverware. Opt for something different like spotted terracotta dinnerware or square plates.
Go for colors that add interest and compliment the occasion. Depending in the occasion play with colors, if you’re having a spring outdoor sit down dinner or lunch go for something that is light but bright. Play with greens, blues and oranges while fall soirees call for more of evergreens, rusts and reds.

Use greenery. You can never go wrong with adding greenery. The more the merrier. Look for unusual flowers and plants to add intrigue and even have them be a conversation starter piece.
Play with layers in the tablescape. Layer table cloths, napkins, plates and so forth. This also goes for the greenery. Focus on height differences. Playing with these levels will add dimension to your setting.
Whether you are having a large gathering or small you can use these tricks to help. Happy hosting!
