Hillside Residence
Perched in the hills of north Orange County, this 1964 single-story Mid-Century Modern home is a study in architectural form. With a private courtyard entry, an indoor atrium, cathedral wood ceilings, and clerestory windows, this home draws light in from every angle and organizes itself around a sense of Californian quiet luxury with an effortless flow around nature. It was imperative to bring the interiors into a full conversation with the outdoors, and design around the homes main feature, the fireplace. The floor-to-ceiling fireplace, covered in plastered stucco, with its cantilevered hearth, grounds the home’s structure and form. The interiors intentionally layer warmth through materiality, texture and nuanced details honoring it’s mid-century character while bringing it confidently into the present. The result is a home where the architecture and interior design speak a unified language of restraint and refinement.
